Craftsmanship
The art of making fine jewellery
From sketch to finished piece
Every piece follows the same careful path. It starts as a design, drawn and refined until the proportions are right. A model is made, the piece is cast or fabricated, stones are set, and the surface is finished and polished. At each stage it is checked by eye and by hand, because small details, such as the smoothness of an edge or the security of a prong, are what separate jewellery that looks good from jewellery that lasts.
The metals we work with
We work primarily with gold in 18 and 22 carat, as well as platinum and sterling silver. Gold is chosen for its warmth and its ability to be worked into fine detail, platinum for its strength and natural white lustre, and silver for pieces that are light, versatile and accessible. The metal, its purity and its weight are listed on every product page.
Diamonds and gemstones
Diamonds are described using the four Cs: cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. Where a stone has an independent grading report, the details are listed on the product page. Coloured gemstones such as ruby, sapphire and emerald are chosen for depth of colour and are set so they are protected in everyday wear. If you would like to know more about a particular stone, we are happy to share everything we know.
Hallmarking and quality checks
Gold jewellery sold in India must be hallmarked by a Bureau of Indian Standards recognised centre, and every hallmarked piece carries a unique six-character identification code. Before a piece is dispatched it is inspected for finish, stone security and fit, so that what arrives is ready to wear.
Responsible sourcing
We ask our suppliers to follow responsible sourcing practices, including compliance with the Kimberley Process for rough diamonds, fair treatment of workers and legal, traceable supply of precious metals. We would rather work with fewer suppliers we know well than many we cannot vouch for.
